For Ludum Dare 59, I pitched a game to my team that focused on running from an approaching threat in order to reach a beacon that would warn your allies of the impending doom. After a few hours of brainstorming, P2 the robot was born. In Signal Boost, you need to evade your former fellow robot friends by stealing “signal” from any technology in the city to boost your speed or nullify another bot’s corruption, adding them to your squad.
The assets that I made using Blender and Photoshop were converted into pre-rendered sprites to help speed up the iteration process. Using a fixed camera and lighting, it was easy to turn a single animation into 3 by rendering it from 3 different angles.
Concept art was created in Clip Studio Paint and I used actual signal beacons as a base to create most of these robot designs. We had less than 3 days, so much of the concepts and other robots were scrapped.
